THIS WEEK'S BIG TIP - BANKROLL MANAGEMENT (From Bigbet Email)

No matter what your skill level, every poker player needs to understand the principles of bankroll management to be successful in the long term.

Even the best players will experience ups and downs and when you are down, bankroll management can mean the difference between just losing money and going bust.

Starting with the basics, your bankroll is the amount of money you have to play with - your budget, if you like. We’re talking about your whole budget here - irrespective if you have $10,000 spread across four different sites or the whole amount at just one.

You need to always be aware of what your bankroll is at any moment as it determines what stakes you can play with. Some players like to keep track of their bankroll with a daily chart - not a bad idea. But if you can’t do this, you definitely need to at least create yourself a bankroll and keep regular checks on it.

The basic rule of bankroll management is 500 big bets for limit cash games and 40 full buy-ins for no limit cash games or tournaments. A big bet in limit games is regarded as the higher amount once the stakes are listed - usually twice the big blind. A buy-in is considered either the tournament entry free or 100 times the big blind in a no-limit game.
